Workout Motivation – Journey of a Plus Size Personal Trainer

workout motivation
Workout motivation is the most desired feeling or process that makes you exercise and helps you create a fitness routine all for the result of having a healthy body and feeling good in your body.

Workout Motivation Is A Common Problem

Workout motivation is probably the number #1 most asked question that I receive from hundreds of Curvy Goddesses.

How do I get motivated to work out?

Some are trying to find that one silver bullet to instantly make them exercise and love it.

You may think that you are different than those who exercise regularly. You may think that their love for it is in-born.

I will have to disagree. They do it because they have finally shifted the thought and feeling of exercise as something they just do.

There’s no thought of not doing it.

Not doing it isn’t an option for them.

They’ve cultivated exercise into a habit, like they and you do with brushing your teeth or showering daily.

So on with what I will be doing for the next year and helping you with your workout motivation.

For the past year, I have sat on my butt in-between training my clients.

I have been in front of my laptop and work journal increasing my knowledge base on being an entrepreneur, writing, social media marketing while my butt and stomach increase in size and spread exponentially.

Because of this, you have an amazing opportunity to follow me along on my personal fitness journey and see me create a fit body, mind, and spirit in this new lifestyle of mine.

Maybe even start your fitness journey with me if you’d like.

I’m not going to give myself many rules on my fitness journey, except for 4. (That may change the further I go along my workout motivation journey.)

But having too many rules will squelch my workout motivation. It won’t give me the freedom and will make me a slave to exercise.

Who wants that? I sure don’t!

I’m trying to accomplish the very opposite. I want a great balance of sitting in front of my laptop doing solid work and reaching fellow Curvy Goddesses who have never been exposed to the Curvy Goddess Fitness Movement while having the desire to work out for the day, to keep me sane and revamp my body.

The 4 Simple Rules for Workout Motivation

I’m going to make it simple, especially in the beginning to avoid overwhelm. So here is a list of my 4 simple rules that I’ll follow to increase workout motivation on my fitness journey.

1. 7 minutes of exercise daily
The 7-minute rule seems to work for me and for my personal training clients and my Curvy Goddess online fitness challengers.

I have an All-or-Nothing kind of personality and I wish I could tell you that this is a good thing, but observing this quality in myself for years, it has given me more grief and anxiety and has held me back than helped me.

For a change, I’m going to allow myself to be human. What’s that?

So I can’t be GREAT and SUPER? Yes, I can be a super and great human being.

Claiming myself as a human being with flaws and imperfections doesn’t take away from being great, super, and beautiful!

So I allow myself 7 minutes to work out every day. And I allow myself to continue exercise or quit after the 7 minutes is up.

2. No dieting, but stick to whole food eating.
Dieting sucks. When you’re dieting you’re so focused on eating as little as possible rather than focusing on quality.

I’m want to shift my focus away from quantity and back to quality. My taste buds will change and my body will feel much better. I won’t have low energy issues and my mood will be more even-keeled. Basically, I won’t be so moody.

3. No calorie counting
This rule is definitely connected to the above rule about dieting. Calorie counting bites, just like dieting. Again, the focus is on how many calories are in so-called food rather than choosing nutrient dense, natural food.

4. Wear my FitBit daily
For the next 4-6 weeks, I’m going to wear my FitBit everyday to see how active I am. This will help with workout motivation and finding my base activity level.

Motivation Workout Results

So what do I want to achieve during this workout motivation process?

My workout motivation goals are to:

1. Create a fit and healthy body, not a skinny one.
I’ve never been attracted to having a skinny body. Although this seems to be mainstream society’s favored body type, I’m not part of the voice of mainstream.

2. Feel connected to my body; feel strong and sexy by appreciating what I can do with it.
When I am working out like a beast, it is something else that I can hardly express in words.

I feel invincible, strong, and superhuman. I want that back, because I deserve it. I am worth it!

3. Reshape my body to a size 10/12. Right now I am a size 18, maybe even 20.
Am I ashamed of the body I have since I’m a personal trainer? Not really. But it’s something I’d like to change, because I’m not feeling as energetic and strong as I can be and have been.

I have the power and all of the knowledge to create change. I’m not in a place of hopelessness, but am actually looking forward to being transparent and honest with you while I do the work.

Workout Motivation Helps with Everything in Life

One more thing that I need to cover before. You may wonder why I’m not focusing on eating less and dieting rather than working out because I’m sure you’ve heard based on “research” that exercise doesn’t affect weight loss.

Let me answer this question without getting too annoyed. I’m not annoyed with you, but with dieticians and weight loss coaches who share this information because it’s irresponsible.

It discourages people in engaging in a natural act of moving their bodies and engaging in an insane and neurotic action of counting calories and feeling horrible about yourself.

When you focus on moving more and then start to exercise consistently it spills into other aspects of your life. So you’re not only more motivated to work out but you’re motivated in other aspects of your life.

I’ve seen it happen to me and to hundreds of my personal training clients over the years.

“Typically, people who exercise, start eating better and become more productive at work. They smoke less and show more patience with colleagues and family. They use their credit cards less frequently and say they feel less stressed. Exercise is a keystone habit that triggers widespread change.”

– Charles Duhigg, The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business

So if you hear someone share with you the research about exercise not affecting your weight, please run as quickly as possible away from them.

So there you have it! My workout motivation project and goals for the next full year. It’s not going to perfect and pretty. And that’s what I want to show you. That what you want and what I want isn’t worth it if it’s too easy. But I’m going to have regrets going for it if I don’t.
